Course outline

Help people break down everyday barriers. Occupational therapists help people overcome limitations caused by injury or illness, psychological or emotional difficulties, developmental delay or the effects of ageing.

In this program you will study occupational therapy for children, adolescents, adults and older people. and build foundational knowledge in physiology, functional anatomy, psychology and wellbeing, and public health. You’ll complete 1000 hours of fieldwork to build your professional skills and clinical experience in a wide range of settings and age groups. This program includes compulsory placements in settings that require full COVID-19 vaccination.

Other requirements

Students may be required to undertake some clinical placements outside the Sunshine Coast region in metropolitan and regional/rural centres. Expenses for these and other placement requirements are incurred by the student. Placements in third and fourth years are undertaken on a full-time basis. Before undertaking clinical placements, students must obtain a Suitability Card, complete a criminal history check (from second year), hepatitis B immunisation and first aid and CPR training and purchase an occupational therapy student uniform; refer to institution. Prerequisites

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); One of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology, Health or Physical Education (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 17 years
