Course outline

This degree pairs the Bachelor of Psychological Science with the Master of Rehabilitation Counselling, allowing you to complete an undergraduate and postgraduate qualification in just four years. Gain a thorough grounding in the application of clinical, development, biological, cognitive, social and organisational psychology. You will then build on this broad knowledge base with studies in the specialist area of rehabilitation counselling. To acquire the advanced knowledge and skills to work as a rehabilitation counsellor, you will learn about vocational evaluation, job placement, injury management, disability studies, applied counselling and research methods. You will put this all into practice through a supervised practicum placement in a rehabilitation counselling setting. Note

Bachelor of Psychological Science courses are conducted at the Gold Coast and Brisbane South (Mt Gravatt) and Master of Rehabilitation courses are conducted online (with in-field professional placement).

Career opportunities

You’ll be ready for roles in community, peer and disability support as well as case management. Your masters degree will prepare you to work as an accredited rehabilitation counsellor in government, insurance, disability employment services, the National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS), the National Disability Insurance scheme (NDIS), and other private and not-for-profit services.

Membership

As a Bachelor of Psychological Science graduate, you will be eligible for affiliate membership of the Australian Psychological Society. Master of Rehabilitation Counselling graduates will be eligible to apply for membership with the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors (ASORC) and the Rehabilitation Counselling Association of Australasia (RCAA) subject to meeting any additional requirements that may be stipulated by ASORC or RCAA.
